What is the Right Material for Your Up-and-Over Garage Door?

Showroom garage door displays

The three most popular options for up-and-over garage doors are timber, steel and modern composite materials that provide excellent insulation. Each have their own particular benefits. This week, we thought we’d take a closer look at all three. So, if you’re yet to make up your mind about what substance you would like your garage door to be manufactured from – this is a good place to start.

Timber Garage Doors

Wood is a building material with a venerable history. The halls of the Anglo-Saxons were constructed from timber. It continues to be used structurally and decoratively in modern houses because it is strong and flexible and it looks great. Wooden doors are easily customisable to fit unusually shaped entrances. They look particularly good on period homes or in a countryside setting.

Steel Garage Doors

The strong and durable choice. Steel provides strength but it is not heavy and it requires minimal upkeep. All the steel garage doors that we supply and install are powder coated. This plastic spray provides protection from rust and is available in 17 standard RAL colours. This means you can choose a colour that complements features of your house and garage such as the brickwork or other entrances to the property.

Composite Doors

These doors look great, they are very low maintenance and long-lasting and therefore a great choice for domestic properties. The Garador PVC range includes a two-panelled design that suits a traditional or contemporary dwelling. The UV-fast, white, low gloss PVC will perfectly match existing white PVC window and door frames. The panels are rust resistant, which makes them great for homes situated near the coast. All Garador up-and-over garage doors are constructed within a rigid box section chassis. They are available in many colours and as canopy, retractable or retractable plus gearing.
