Find Us!Garages have a tendency to become cluttered over time. It doesn’t matter how pristine your garage is when you first move in: sooner or later, it will start to fill up with boxes of unwanted knick-knacks from the house, broken bicycles, sporting paraphernalia and odd lengths of wood leftover from DIY projects. At Automated Garage Doors and Gates, we always like to help: so, here are our tips for saving space in your garage.
Hold a Garage Sale
Invite the neighbourhood to come and peruse your pre-loved items and pick up a bargain or two. Get the kids involved in the sales, you’ll be able to spot who’s a budding Alan Sugar. With the cash raised, you could treat the family to a trip out as a reward for their help on the day and their sacrifice in parting with goods they’d outgrown.
Put up Shelves
Walls can often be underutilised space in a garage. By putting up shelves, you’ll be creating a whole extra dimension of storage space. If shelves are a bit beyond your DIY competence, a few large nails banged randomly in the wall should be enough to support the weight of a modern lightweight bicycle or an old wooden squash racket.
Ditch the Car
Increasing numbers of city-dwellers are signing up to car clubs. These shared ownership schemes allow members the use of a car whenever they need one without the need to own a car. This cuts down on the expense of owning and storing a car – especially if you are only using it twice a week and it spends the rest of the time sat in your garage.
Buy a New Door
Certain models of garage door take up less space than others. For garage owners that really want to make the most use of their space, we recommend a Roller Garage Door. Warm Protection ‘Rolladoors’ are manufactured from aluminium and roll up into a compact space behind and above your garage entrance.
