One of the UK’s leading garage door manufacturers, Garador have been producing top quality garage doors for almost half a century. We take a look at their fascinating company history.
In the late 1940s, Somerset engineering firm Westland faced a problem. The War was over and their main business of manufacturing aircraft for the war effort was facing an imminent decline. In order to maintain their workforce (and provide a few jobs for returning soldiers) they needed to diversify. Someone at the company came up with the idea of manufacturing-under-licence a new design of garage door that had recently come out of Canada. For the next decade, they were the only suppliers of one-piece garage doors in Britain and from 1958, Garador branded garage doors began to fly out of the factory. The experiment in diversification had been a resounding success.
