Whilst up and over doors have been the common choice for many decades, modern alternatives such as the sectional door have become a regular sight in both traditional and contemporary properties alike.
Choosing a sectional garage door:
• Is Ideal If You Are Looking To Increase The Width Of Your Garage Opening
Despite the width of cars steadily increasing over the decades, the width of garage door openings has remained the same. For the past 40 years the standard width for new build garage doors has been 2134mm (7ft) - though the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) have long argued that this needs to be increased to 2286mm (7ft 6ins) to accommodate larger vehicles.
If your 7ft garage door is leaving little room for you to park your car, a sectional garage door could be the ideal solution. Unlike up and over garage doors, which require a frame around the opening, a sectional garage door is fitted behind the brickwork. This removes the necessity of the wooden frame, allowing us to remove it from the opening and generate an additional six inches of drive through space.
• Is Ideal If You Are Looking To Maximise The Amount Of Space In Your Garage
For those of you looking to maximise the space you have available, both behind and in front of your garage door, a sectional door is the best choice. Up and over alternatives require space to swing open and this limits how closely you can park your vehicle to the garage door.
A sectional door on the other hand opens vertically and slides under the ceiling. This means allows you to park your vehicle tight to the front of your door and make full use of all the space you have available within your garage.
• Is Ideal If Your Garage Door Opening Is Angled
Not every garage is a perfect square – some doors feature angled corners, whilst others have arched openings. For irregular shaped openings, fitting a standard up and over garage door is not possible. In these instances we would therefore recommend that you opt for a sectional door. Due to it being fitted behind the brickwork, there is no necessity for a sectional door to travel through the garage aperture and it is therefore the perfect choice for doors of any shape.
