How Can I Improve the Energy Efficiency of My Garage?
Winter is coming! If you use your garage as a practical space to conduct work or pursue hobbies, you’ll probably have noticed a nip in the air in recent days. Heating a garage can be an expensive exercise unless you take steps to improve its energy efficiency.
Tips for an Energy Efficient Garage
Efficient Insulation. This is the most important step in creating an energy efficient garage. Without adequate insulation in the ceiling and preferably the walls, all other efforts will be wasted as warm air will quickly escape.
Efficient Heating. Most garages aren’t connected to the central heating system – leaving you with no option but to use a plug-in heater. The least efficient are the fan heaters that work by blowing air across an electrically heated element. If you are using one of these, look to replace it with an efficient oil-filled column heater.
Efficient Glazing. Windows are another feature of the garage that can encourage rapid heat loss. Replacing single-glazed windows with double or even triple-glazing will reduce the amount of heat escaping from your garage.
Efficient Door. All the energy improvements you make for your garage will be in vain if you do not have an efficient door. At Automated Garage Doors and Gates, we can supply double steel skinned energy-efficient garage doors filled with insulating polyurethane foam.
