With winter now set in, those with classic cars will be looking to protect their motors from the cold conditions that can lead to cars being damaged and their values dropping. If you own a classic motor vehicle, or are looking to buy one, this blog will give you the help you need in order to protect your classic car this winter.

Preparing Your Car for Storage

Preparing your car for storage is an important step you should take before hiding your car from the weather conditions of winter. Here are some of the most important steps you should carry out:

  • Cleaning your car – Remove any dust, dead insects, mud and other general dirt that may damage the body of your car. Clean both the inside and outside of your car before putting it into storage.
  • Check and protect essentials – If the vehicle will be in storage for a long time, carry out the following checks: check the tyre pressures are all correct, ensure the petrol/ diesel tank is filled to the brim, chock the cars wheels with wooden blocks and ensure the handbrake is not on while the car is in storage. Also, check the car’s battery and invest in a battery maintainer.

Storing Your Car

Storing a classic car appropriately will protect it from the worst effects of winter.. Here are some things for you to consider when storing the car:

  • Find the best hibernation spot – A garage is often the most suitable place to store your car and the ideal conditions for car storage is a warm and dry environment. If an unsuitable garage door is holding you back from storing your car in your garage, we have a wide range of garage doors available.
  • Covering your car – Covers protect your car from dust and the weather conditions keeping your car in peak condition. You can get covers suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
  • Keeping out unwanted passengers – Much like your classic car, animals will want to avoid the cold conditions of winter. Your car is the ideal home for a range of pests including mice and rats. Make sure to plug the exhaust and other places where pests could find their way in and cause damage.
