Find Us!When the temperature drops, your energy bills go up. However, if you can recognise what’s keeping your energy bills high, you can do something about it. Here are a few possible culprits that could be to blame for your high energy bills this winter.
1. Your Energy Provider
When it comes to energy providers, it’s worth shopping around for the best deal. If you haven't changed your energy provider in years, you could be in line for a saving amounting to hundreds of pounds. Make the switch.
2. Not Eating Properly
Your body makes its own heat, but you have to make sure it is properly fuelled. Load up on carbohydrates like potatoes, pasta and rice, and warm yourself up with hot drinks.
3. Not Wearing Enough Layers
Retain your body heat by wearing warm clothes. Two pairs of socks and a jumper will go a long way towards keeping your body temperature up and the thermostat down.
4. Lack of Roof Insulation
Staying warm this winter applies to your house as much as to your body. Due to the pesky Second Law of Thermodynamics, hot things keep getting colder. You can slow this process down by insulation. Your roof might be a good place to start as that can be responsible for up to 25% of heat loss.
5. Old Front Doors
Another culprit in the heat loss stakes and our area of expertise: doors. An old door made from timber and glass is thermally inefficient. In fact, the U-value (the unit by which we measure heat loss) of a timber door is so low that they cannot be installed in new-build properties as they fail to meet government standards. Updating to a modern composite door, such as ours by FrontGuard, is another way to cut your bills.
6. Old Garage Doors
Like timber front doors, single sheet steel garage doors are thermally inefficient. However, with a garage door you are talking about a much bigger surface area and therefore a much larger heat loss. Consider upgrading to a modern garage door with polyurethane foam insulation to prevent heat loss.
If you would like to talk to us about upgrading your existing doors to make them more thermally efficient then give us a call on 01603 787069 or drop into our showroom on the Sweet Briar industrial Estate.
