Find Us!World leaders gathered in Paris at the end of last year for the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The outlook was grim: unless we can keep average global warming to below an increase of 2°C, the world will see catastrophic environmental changes. Amazingly, the politicians involved managed to come to an agreement that might give some parts of the planet a chance of remaining habitable. In the light of all this doom-mongering, it might seem that the individual is rather powerless, but this is not the case. There is plenty you can do to reduce the amount of fossil fuel emissions you are responsible for.
Public Transport
We’re not suggesting the car should be abandoned altogether (that might have a knock-on effect on garage door sales) but when everybody is leaving from the same place, heading in the same direction, it is ludicrous to take along an engine per person. Taking the bus just one day a week can dramatically reduce your carbon footprint.
Electric Cars
A car running on electricity produces zero exhaust pipe emissions. However, that electricity has to be generated from somewhere. In areas heavily reliant on inefficient coal burning power stations, the amount of emissions used to produce the electricity for powering your electric or hybrid car will be just as high as that emitted by a standard diesel or petrol engine. The ecologically minded should switch electricity supplier to one that is committed to renewable energy sources.
Insulation, Insulation, Insulation
We waste so much energy trying to heat poorly insulated houses. Most heat is lost through the roof, the doors and the windows. Large poorly insulated surface areas such as a traditional timber front door leech warmth out of the house and result in you turning up the thermostat thus increasing the amount of emissions you are responsible for. A modern insulated front door will trap the heat inside.
You can do your bit towards cutting emissions by installing one of our thermally efficient entrance doors or garage doors. Call us on 01603 787069 or drop by our showroom on the Sweet Briar industrial estate.
