Considering the Garage Doors of the Future

Having been in our industry for over 20 years now, we have experienced lots of change. Change with both the products we supply customers, but also the vehicles that are available to customers now. The motor industry is closely linked to the garage industry and developments in one industry can affect developments in the other. For instance: the fashion for larger garages and wider garage doors has led to larger vehicles (or is it the other way around?) In this blog, we will be talking about the garage doors we could be seeing in the future, as cars evolve more and more. 

What Styles Could We See in The Future 

The style of garage door we may see in the future very much depends on the innovations made in both the construction and motor vehicle industry. In one hundred years from now, it’s very likely that diesel- and petrol-fuelled vehicles will be on the brink of extinction. Is it also possible that vehicles will be largely in the air rather than being grounded by wheels? With all this in mind, here are some of the adaptations we (or future generations) might one day see with garage doors:

• Sliding doors – Yes, we know sliding doors already exist but they could one day take on a whole new form. Presumably, we’ll be installing them in the roof so that they can let the flying cars and jetpacks in and out.   
  
• Forcefield doors – Forcefields have been referenced in countless films, books and video games, although nobody has produced one yet. The closest we have come to forcefield doors are automatic sensor doors, but this could all change in the future. We could one day have garage doors composed of a forcefield that only the owner can pass through. 
  
• Voice-activated garage door – The house AI is programmed to recognise a voice and open up the garage door. A couple of years ago this might have sounded like science fiction. Now? “Alexa – open my garage door!”
