We all drool over the latest supercars or vintage classics in glossy magazines, even if we can’t actually afford to own them. But the rich and famous have no such worries, and many let their love for wheels take over, stuffing luxury garages with beautiful cars. Here are three of the most extravagant celebrity garages we’ve ever seen – and we promise, they’ll shock you.
Jay Leno
There are few motorheads as passionate as American talk show host Jay Leno, and his 17,000 square foot garage is where he stashes his extensive collection of old, new and luxury cars. A quarter of the garage is a machine shop complete with speciality equipment, including sheet metal machines and welding apparatus. The garage also has a gourmet kitchen, in case Leno gets peckish while he’s tinkering away. If you want to see more, check out the Jay Leno’s Garage YouTube channel, which is every car lover’s dream.
The Sultan of Brunei
Probably the most controversial car collector, the Sultan of Brunei has between 3,000 and 6,000 exotic cars – no one is quite sure how many. His most expensive is a $14 million custom Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Limousine that’s practically solid gold. The entire collection is worth over $300 million, but visitors have reported that many of it has been poorly maintained and is no longer commercially viable. Thousands of exquisite cars left to rot… Now that is a waste.
Rowan Atkinson
Rowan Atkinson’s collection of motors is relatively modest and varied, with items ranging from a Lancia Delta Integrale to an MG X-Power SV. The actor, famous for his roles as Mr Bean and Blackadder, has been known to race some of his collection including an Aston Martin V8 Zagato and Renault GT Turbo. Though in 2011 he famously crashed a McLaren F1 Supercar, which subsequently had to be rebuilt by the manufacturer.
