Find Us!If you are going to undertake a noisy hobby in your garage and you want to stay on good terms with your neighbours, you might want to invest in some soundproofing. Examples of activities that might generate a lot of nuisance noise are playing the drums or amplified instruments, turning wood on an electric lathe or working out to loud music. All of these are perfectly reasonable hobbies and noise disturbance can be kept to a minimum by good soundproofing.
Soundproof Walls
If you are looking to reduce the sound escaping from your garage by just a few decibels, then you can buy acoustic insulation sheets that will stick to the walls. However, if your death metal band practises in there and your neighbour has already threatened you with the council, then you will need to take more serious action: installing interior stud walls and thick acoustic quilt insulation.
Soundproof Windows
The more glazing the better. Many window firms now offer triple-glazed windows. However, windows and doors are your weak point and sound will escape through the windows. If you can cope without natural light, blocking the windows with insulation as part of the wall soundproofing described above is the most effective way to stop noise escaping.
Soundproof Doors
We described doors as a weak point, but they don’t have to be. For noise reduction, we would always recommend the 42mm-thick Sectional Door with premium insulation. Each double-skinned section is filled with 100% CFC-free polyurethane rigid foam. The insulation is designed to keep out the cold, but it will also dampen down the soundwaves emanating from your garage.
A Room within a Room
Applying all these techniques will reduce the amount of sound escaping from your garage. However, to completely eliminate all sound leakage, you will have to call in a professional team. If your garage is sufficiently large, soundproofing experts that work with nightclubs and music studios will be able to build you a room within a room. Of course, then you will need two doors…
